MKAA Youth Match Fishing

MKAA has entered junior and intermediate teams into several competitions again this year. Under the management of Ian Greenhood the MKAA team has been very successful and look forward to in doing so again.

MKAA is looking for new members to strengthen our two squads, age groups 12-15 yrs old and 16-19 yrs old. Its best if new anglers have some experience; it does not have to be in match fishing but this is not for complete beginners. If you are a complete beginner then have a look at the Junior Teach-in sessions run by Nuala.

Below is a list of matches for 2009, as well as these MKAA runs sessions most Saturday afternoons. The team is not a large group compared to some clubs but we do have some excellent anglers and some experienced adult match anglers who are willing to pass on their knowledge.

As these matches are some distance away it does mean there is some travelling to do and we do like parents to get involved and travel with the team.

For the 4th year in a row the Milton Keynes team won the British Waterways Southern Junior Championship in 2008 at Kings Langley on the G.U.C.

James Drakulic was the N.J.A.A. Intermediate Individual National Champion in 2008 on the Kennet and Avon. James improved on his third place in 2007.

The two matches in on Teardrops and Lodge are open to any youngster who is interested in coming along and giving it a try, there will even be a trophy for the winner. Our coaches will be on hand at these two matches to help you improve your techniques.

On saturday 23rd May the youths attended The All England Youth Pole Championship fishing match at Dent`s Fishery Hilgay.
The match was fished over two lakes, Willows which is a big fish lake and Farm Shop which is a more mixed smaller fish lake, being a team of four competion two members were on each lake. There were 12 teams of four taking part and Milton Keynes A.A. were a creditable third behind two Farnborough teams, and our James Drakulic was second overall individual.
